The Southern Gate of the Baptistery of Florence restored with one of El.En.'s laser
In the night between 4th and 5th November 2019, the Southern Gate of the Baptistery of Florence was taken to the Museo dell'Opera Duomo, its new home.
The artwork, created by Andrea Pisano between 1330 and 1336, had been dismantled in 2016 and taken to the Opificio delle Pietre Dure to undergo a complete restoration.
To carry out the work, the technicians used a laser El.En. for the restoration of artworks. After having carried out a great number of interventions around the world, this time the lasers El.En. were used at home.
The restoration of the South Gate was part of a global intervention that pertained to the entire baptistery, including the other two famous doors. Starting from 9 December 2019, it will be possible to admire the Southern Gate in the Sala del Paradiso of the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in its renewed splendor.
